Desthiobiotin is a modified form of biotin that competitively displaces Strep-tag®II and Twin-Strep-tag® fusion proteins from the biotin-binding pocket of Strep-Tactin®, enabling mild elution. Desthiobiotin powder is used to prepare Strep-Tactin® elution buffer (Buffer E), but it is not suitable for elution from Strep-Tactin®XT resins.
